Use IE8 -nomerge option to login multiple accounts of same site:-
If you’re using Windows Vista and don’t mind to type a little bit of command, just click Vista Orb and start typing iexplore.exe -nomerge in the Start Search text box, followed by ENTER key.
Tweak the IE8 shortcut:- Regardless how many IE8 shortcut icon there are in your system, just right-click one of the icon that you use most of time to start IE8 browser, select Properties from the pop-up menu, click the Shortcut tab and append -nomerge to the Target text box

Mozilla Firefox:-
Initial Setup
- close all instances of firefox
- Start -> Run -> firefox.exe -ProfileManager
- create 5 or so profiles, I named them p1 - p5
Then when you want to use different profiles launch each one from the command line
- Start -> Run -> firefox.exe -P p1 -no-remote.
Each profile is totally distinct (history, cookies, etc...), only issue there does not seem to be an easy way to tell which profile you currently have open

While creating a script in webload, often we may need to decode the string that will appear in url or for the data that needs to be submitted using POST method.To encode or decode the string we can use the below two methods,

Disk Related Counters

If you suspect that your system’s hard disk might be a bottleneck for the system, then there are two counters that you should examine within the Physical Disk performance object. The counters are % Disk Time and Current Disk Queue Length.

The % Disk Time counter shows you what percentage of the time the hard disk is busy. You want this counter’s average value to be as low as possible (but not zero). An average value of 90% or above indicates that the hard disk can’t keep up with the demand. This could be due to a hard disk that is too slow, or it could be caused by excessive paging. I will talk more about paging in the section on memory.

The Current Disk Queue Length counter tells you how many I/O operations are waiting for the hard disk to become available. Again, this number should be as low as possible. Experts give differing opinions of what is an acceptable value, but my opinion is that the average disk queue length should be three or less.

Memory Related Counters

PAGES/SEC – this value counts the number of times per second that the computer must access virtual memory rather than physical memory. A value above 20 is considered to be problematic

Committed Bytes and Available Bytes – The Committed Bytes counter traces the amount of virtual memory that’s in use. The Available Bytes counter monitors how much memory is actually available. As you might expect, as the Available Bytes counter decreases, paging increases, thus slowing down your machine. If you determine that the Available Bytes are often in short supply, you can correct the problem by adding memory. However, before you do, try watching both counters together as you open and close programs. If the committed bytes don’t decrease and available bytes don’t increase as you close programs, the system may have a memory leak which is caused by a software problem rather than insufficient RAM.

Cache Bytes – This counter monitors the amount of memory being used for the file system cache. Anything over 4 MB is considered to be to much. The solution is to add more memory.

Is Your Server Available?

Availability means your system or application is up and running, and one way of determining the availability of your system is to view the System\System Up Time counter, which tells you how many seconds it's been since your server last rebooted.

You can monitor uptime for any process running on your machine using the Process(instance)\Elapsed Time counter, which tells you how long that particular process has been running on your machine.

How Busy is it?

A server that's too busy may be unable to satisfactorily respond to client requests. The simplest measure of a system's busyness is Processor(_Total)\% Processor Time, which measures the total utilization of your processor by all running processes. Note that if you have a multiprocessor machine, Processor(_Total)\% Processor Time actually measures the average processor utilization of your machine (i.e. utilization averaged over all processors).

If your machine is running several applications or handles several server roles on your network, another way to measure busy-ness is to measure processor contention, which is an indication of how different threads are fighting for the attention of the processors on your machine. If too many threads are contending for use of the same processor, the requests by these threads get queued up, and looking at the System\Processor Queue Length counter gives an indication of how many threads are waiting for execution. If this counter is consistently higher than around 5 when processor utilization approaches 100%, then this is a good indication that there is more work (active threads) available (ready for execution) than the machine's processors are able to handle.

Is Hardware Functioning Properly?

There are a couple of perfmon counters you can track to monitor for signs that your machine's hardware devices are functioning properly. One of these is System\Context Switches/sec, which measures how frequently the processor has to switch from user- to kernel-mode to handle a request from a thread running in user mode. The heavier the workload running on your machine, the higher this counter will generally be, but over long term the value of this counter should remain fairly constant. If this counter suddenly starts increasing however, it may be an indicating of a malfunctioning device, especially if you are seeing a similar jump in the Processor(_Total)\Interrupts/sec counter on your machine.

How to capture the ID in URL and correlate using OpenSTA

In webapplications, session id or some user id will be encoded in urls like, http://localhost/login.jsp;jsessionid=25698FG34. In this example 25698FG34 is the session identifier.Mainly these sessionids can be found in two ways,they are as follows

Distributed Testing in OpenSTA

Distributed testing is nothing but playing back of scripts with more than one machine.

To setup for the method of distributed testing do the following:
1. Select 1 machine that will be the master on which you will develop the tests and Run: this will be your RepositoryHost and the other machines will be the slave load generating machines.
2. On EACH of your slave machines, configure the OpenSTA Name Server by right clicking on the name server icon in the task bar and selecting Configure. Set the 'Repository Host' to the IP/Name of your master(RepositoryHost).
3. On the master(RepositoryHost) machine, create a test. Add your script to the Task group. Set the 'Host' to the IP of one of your slave machines. Set the VU to the load you want that slave to generate. Set the 'Start' to a scheduled time.
4. Now right-click on the task you've added and select 'Duplicate Task Group'. Set the 'Host in the duplicated task to another slave's IP. Optionally, you can modify the load.
5. Repeat Step 4 for all the slaves.

Calling a web service to read a csv file in OpenSTA

Here is an example of calling a web service to read a comma separated file into an array for later use. This technique can be used to call user defined functions coded in languages other than SCL. The web service should be running on the machine hosting opensta to minimize overhead.

The file can be downloaded from here

Unzip the contents into a directory and launch file_reader_service (and leave it running).

Load script filereader.htp into your repository scripts directory, create a 10 VU test executing a single iteration and run it.

Script Modelling and capturing the ViewState

After a script is recorded, it must be edited to capture the ViewState value dynamically. The ViewState value may be found in many pages but should only be captured just before a request that needs to use it. This is performed by simply “Addressing a DOM element” which is explained in detail by the Modeller help. How that process relates to ViewState is described here, in summary only.

After recording the script, no changes should be made to the URLs. The Yellow colored arrow icon in the tool-bar of the Script Modeller will populate the Query Pane with content of the server’s response for the selected URL. The “HTML Tree” tab in the query pane displays a tree representation of the Document Object Model (DOM).

Right click on the HTML Node and choose “Search”. In the textbox that appears, enter “VIEWSTATE” (without the quotes) and hit [Return]. Then right click on the VIEWSTATE value:

From the shortcut menu that appears, select “Address” and assign a variable name, for example “TEMP_VS”.

This will automatically insert the necessary code into the script:

LOAD RESPONSE_INFO BODY ON 1 &

INTO TEMP_VS &

,WITH "HTML(0)/BODY(1)/DIV(0)/FORM(0)/INPUT(0):ATTRIBUTE:value(2);

Unfortunately, after capturing the ViewState, simply substituting the string with the new variable in the next request will result in an HTTP 500 error when played back. There is a little more to using the captured ViewState than this, hence the “TEMP” in the chosen variable-name, “TEMP_VS”.

Using the Viewstate

The format of the ViewState is issued to the browser in literal characters. There are numerous encoded values in the ViewState, each delimited by “+”. The server, however, expects to receive the ViewState back with special characters replaced with their ASCII equivalent. The only special character that is observed to be dynamic in the ViewState string is the delimiter “+”, represented in a post body or URL query string as “%2B”.

Thus, before the captured ViewState can be successfully used, each of these “+” symbols that are interspersed in the string must be substituted with “%2B”. This can be reformatted by passing the value obtained by the “LOAD RESPONSE_INFO” command to a subroutine held in an “Include” file.

This subroutine must use the SCL commands “~LOCATE” to find the position of the next “+”:

It is the text prior to that position that is of interest. Using “~EXTRACT”, that section of the ViewState can be copied to another variable, appending “%2B”:

That portion and the “+” is then removed from the temporary ViewState variable:

SET OFFSET = Len+1

SET TEMP_VS = ~EXTRACT(OFFSET,5120,TEMP_VS)

This must all be repeated until the temporary ViewState variable is empty. It is occasionally necessary to substitute trailing “=” symbols.

The VSTATE variable can then be used in the original script, instead of the ViewState string originally recorded:

PDF File Verification in OpenSTA

To begin with, OpenSTA emulates browser traffic, it does not run a real browser. The only evidence you will have that the server has produced the PDF file is that a link to it, a url, will be returned as the result of a get or post. Next, when you click on that link, opensta records the browser fetching the file.

So, when playing back a script, you have to first be sure the file name of the pdf doesn't change... if it does, you need to correlate it. Next you find the GET statement that retrieves the PDF file. Consider either checking the status returned to be sure its 200 or perhaps loading the response (load response_info body on ) and verifying the first few bytes to see if it contains the right text (something like %PDF should appear in the text).

OpenSTA - Open Systems Testing Architecture
It is a distributed software testing architecture designed around CORBA, it was originally developed to be commercial software by CYRANO. The current toolset has the capability of performing scripted HTTP and HTTPS heavy load tests with performance measurements from Win32 platforms. However, the architectural design means it could be capable of much more.

Recordings are made in the tester's own browser producing simple scripts that can be edited and controlled with a special high level scripting language. These scripted sessions can then be played back to simulate many users by a high performance load generation engine. Using this methodology a user can generate realistic heavy loads simulating the activity of hundreds to thousands of virtual users.

Results and statistics are collected during test runs by a variety of automatic and user controlled mechanisms. These can include scripted timers, SNMP data, Windows Performance Monitor stats and HTTP results & timings. Much of the data logged can be monitored live during the test runs; once test runs are complete, logs can be viewed, graphed, filtered and exported for use by more sophisticated report generation software.

Oracle Performance Monitoring in Windows

Here we will discuss about the procedure of monitoring oracle using windows perfmon.By using perfmon, you can collect Oracle data as well as OS data that might be important to your overall performance monitoring plan. By consolidating your data collection, you will find it easier to analyze data.

The Oracle Counters for Windows Performance Monitor package is not installed by default. In order to install them when you install Oracle, select the custom install option. You can also install this option later via the Oracle installer. Select custom installation and select the Oracle for Windows Performance option under Oracle Windows Interfaces. This will install this package.

Once Oracle Counters has been installed into the Windows Perfmon, you must perform one more piece of setup. The Oracle performance counters are set up to monitor one Oracle instance. Information about this instance must be configured in the registry. In order to do this, from a command prompt run orafcfg.exe with a username, password and Oracle net service name as follows:

operfcfg –U system –P password –D orcl

This will update the registry. You should now be able to monitor Oracle via perfmon. Some of the things that you can monitor are:

* The Oracle Buffer Cache. Here you can see the cache miss ratio.

* Shared Pool Stats. This collection includes the data dictionary cache, and the library cache.

Log Buffer. Provides information on log space requests.

* Database Data Files. This object provides physical read and write per second counters.

* DBWR stats. Provides information on the DB Writer processes.

* Miscellaneous. Other statistics include dynamic space management, free lists and dynamic sorts.

The Unix command who displays a list of users who are currently logged into a computer. The command accepts various options that vary by system to further specify the information that is returned, such as the length of time a particular user has been connected or what pseudo-teletype a user is connected to. The who command is related to the command w, which provides the same information but also displays additional data and statistics.

find
program is a search utility, mostly found on Unix-like platforms. It searches through a directory tree of a filesystem, locating files based on some user-specified criteria. By default, find returns all files below the current working directory. Further, find allows the user to specify an action to be taken on each matched file. Thus, it is an extremely powerful program for applying actions to many files. It also supports regexp matching.
Examples
From current directory
This searches in the current directory (represented by a period) and below it, for files and directories with names starting with my. The backslash before the star is needed to avoid the shell expansion. Without the backslash, the shell would replace my* with the list of files whose names begin with my in the current directory. An alternative is to enclose the the arguments in quotes: find . -name "my*"
Files only find . -name "my*" -type f This limits the results of the above search to only regular files, therefore excluding directories, special files, pipes, symbolic links, etc. my* is enclosed in quotes as otherwise the shell would replace it with the list of files in the current directory starting with my echo is a command in Unix (and by extension, its descendants, such as Linux) and MS-DOS that places a string on the terminal. It is typically used in shell scripts and batch programs to output status text to the screen or a file. $ echo This is a test. This is a test. $ echo "This is a test." > ./test.txt $ cat ./test.txt This is a test.

Unix Day3 Commands

rmdir
is a command which will remove an empty directory on a Unix-system. It cannot be capitalized. Normal usage is straightforward where one types:
rmdir name_of_directory
Where name_of_directory corresponds with the name of the directory one wishes to delete. There are options to this command such as -p which removes parent directories if they are also empty.
For example:
rmdir –p foo/bar/baz
Will first remove baz/, then bar/ and finally foo/ thus removing the entire directory tree specified in the command argument.
Often rmdir will not remove a directory if there is still files present in the directory. To force the removal of the directory even if files are present usually the -rf flag can be used. For example:
rmdir -Rf for/bar/baz

cp
is the command entered in a Unix shell to copy a file from one place to another, possibly on a different filesystem. The original file remains unchanged, and the new file may have the same or a different name.

-h – makes the cp command copy symbolic links. The default is to follow symbolic links, that is, to copy files to which symbolic links point.
-i (interactive) – prompts you with the name of a file to be overwritten. This occurs if the TargetDirectory or TargetFile parameter contains a file with the same name as a file specified in the SourceFile or SourceDirectory parameter. If you enter y or the locale's equivalent of y, the cp command continues. Any other answer prevents the cp command from overwriting the file.
-p (preserve) – duplicates the following characteristics of each SourceFile/SourceDirectory in the corresponding TargetFile and/or TargetDirectory:

mkdir
command in the Unix operating system is used to make a new Directory. Normal usage is as straightforward as follows:
mkdir name_of_directory
Where name_of_directory is the name of the directory one wants to create. When typed as above (ie. normal usage), the new directory would be created within the current directory.

rm (short for remove)
is a Unix command used to delete files from a filesystem. Common options that rm accepts include :
-r, which processes subdirectories recursively
-i, which asks for every deletion to be confirmed
-f, which ignores non-existent files and overrides any confirmation prompts ("force")
"rm -rf" (variously, "rm -rf /", "rm -rf *", and others) is frequently used in jokes and anecdotes about Unix disasters. The "rm -rf /" variant of the command, if run by an administrator, would cause the contents of every mounted disk on the computer to be deleted.

Commands to Learn,

1.ls
When invoked without any arguments, lists the files in the current working directory. Files whose names start with "." are not listed, unless the -a flag is specified or the files are specified explicitly.
Without options, ls displays files in a bare format. This bare format however makes it difficult to establish the type, permissions, and size of the files. The most common options to reveal this information or change the list of files are:
-l long format, displaying Unix file type, permissions, number of hard links, owner, group, size, date, and filename
-F appends a character revealing the nature of a file, for example, * for an executable, or / for a directory. Regular files have no suffix.
-a lists all files in the given directory, including those whose names start with "." By default, these files are excluded from the list.
-R recursively lists subdirectories. The command ls -R / would therefore list all files.

2.cd
Is a command line command used to change the current working directory in the Unix and DOS operating systems. A directory is a logical section of a filesystem used to hold files. Directories may also contain other directories. The cd command can be used to change into a subdirectory, move back into the parent directory, move all the way back to the root (/ in UNIX, \ in DOS) or move to any given directory.

3.pwd
command (print working directory) is used to print the name of current working directory from a computer's command-line interface.

Working with Java in Webload

We can access the Java class through Webload, this can be done by the following steps,

1.You need to install jdk in your machine, i have installed jdk1.5.0_05 in my machine

2.After installing the jdk, we need to set the classpath

3.Inorder to set the class path, right click on the My Computer icon - choose Properties - click the Environment Variables button - set the path as Ex: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_05\bin

4.Create one notepad file with name as Account and extension as .java

Excessive Paging

Paging is where the system writes or reads a page of memory to the disk subsystem. This is done because more physical memory (RAM) is needed than was available. The disk subsystem takes the place of memory in this case.

Writing and reading from disk is exponentially slower than writing or reading from memory and therefore too much paging will have a performance impact.

Paging File Size

The paging file is the file used when the system pages information in and out of memory (process mentioned above). The file is configured through control panel…system…performance. Processor Queues 100% processor usage is not always bad, although it is true that a faster processor will improve things, it may be that a single application easily uses 100% of the faster processor as well. This becomes a problem is other processes are queued waiting for processor time

Processor Congestion

The server work queue is the queue of requests waiting for processor time. This is the list of work the system must do to answer server network requests.

Network Throughput

If the number of pages/sec increases and the number of bytes Total/sec decreases then the server is doing more work but handling less network traffic, which may be a sign that physical memory is the bottleneck. Note, network cards use nonpaged memory, so the physical memory may be taken up with network tasks, leaving less for the paged memory processes use, hence the excessive paging.

What is cookie?
Simply put, cookie is a piece of information been passed back and forth between a web server and browser to keep the state of the web surfing session. It is a piece of opaque data. By opaque I mean that its structure is not well understood by the client. It is a piece of data that's stored, then given by the server to the client, stored by the client, and returned to the server each time the client returns. So said the father of cookie, Lou Montulli.
How do cookies work?

Here is the essence of the cookie mechanism:

The browser first requests a page on the server;
The server sends back a cookie with the requested page to the browser;
The browser sends the cookie to the server with subsequent requests.

With the unique information stored in the cookie, the server would be able to tell the identity of the browser by examining the cookie embedded in each request.

The cookies are usually stored in small text files on the hard disk of clients machine, and will be destroyed after its designated expiration date. This type of cookie is also referred as persistent cookie, since they will remain on hard disk even the browser has been closed.

Another type of cookie will be stored in the memory by the browser, called transient cookie or session cookie. They will be destroyed once the browser is closed.

As mentioned earlier, the information stored in the cookie need not be understood by the browser. The browser only needs to return the cookie to the server in the subsequent requests to maintain the state of the surfing session. The information stored inside the cookie are some key/value pairs. These key/value pairs can be anything of the servers choice to facilitate the web application, be it username/password (putting username/password in cookie is a very dangerous thing and generally avoided) or users preferences about the website. This makes the use of cookie very flexible, which is desirable. In the mean time, this flexibility also leads to some poorly designed home-brew web authentication system.

The detailed description of cookie can be found in RFC 2965 HTTP State Management Mechanism (Kristol and Montulli), which was announced on October 7, 2000 by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force).

Parameterization

Follow the steps below to Parameterize in Webload,

a.Open the Project that you like to parameterize.

b.Drag the GlobalInputFile icon from the General Toolbox into the Agenda Tree.

c.GlobalInputFile winodw appears, click on the Create New Data File icon to create a new database file.

d.Specify the number of Rows and Column you would like in the Rows and Columns combo box.

e.Use the First row to fill in the Column names ex.(Username, Password), after specifying all the details click the OK button.

f.Save the File.

g.Click Yes to use the file we created as the file for the Global Input File.

h.Click the "Use first row as title row" checkbox to define first database row as a title row, which means that first row information will be used as parameter names(Username, Password).

i.Click the Save & Close icon at top.

j.Our database parameter names will be added in the script as,

Username = strGlobalInputFileLine[1]

Password = strGlobalInputFileLine[2]

Move on to the Editing mode to use these Username and Password parameters.

k.Consider the following script,

The purpose of Correlation is,

To simplify or optimize your code
For example, if you perform a series of dependent queries one after another, your code may become very long. To reduce the size of the code, you can nest the queries, but then you lose precision and the code becomes complex and difficult to understand. Correlating the statements enables you to link queries without nesting.

To generate dynamic data
Many applications and Web sites identify a session by the current date and time. If you try to replay a script, it will fail because the current time is different than the recorded time. Correlating the data enables you to save the dynamic data and use it throughout the scenario run.
